Music composed / adapted Joe Payne ©2009.
This world premiere follows Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, Claire Clairmont, and Doctor John Polidori as they vacation at the Villa Diodati in 1816. This event was the birthplace of Frankenstein. These people influenced art and literature so greatly, that we wanted to use the romantic style of music that they influenced in the coming decades, rather than use existing music of the direct period, which felt old fashioned. I took some Chopin waltzes and adapted them, creating a score that was very much in the mood of these romantic figures. The finale culminates in a waltz, where each character has a moment in soliloquy form, to portray their hopes, fears, and desires.
