For a few years now, a dear friend, Kyle Lewis, has been trying to get me to start a sketch journal. He is in the middle of his 5th, I believe. I recently taught a beginning rendering and figure drawing class for The University of Utah Department of Theatre, and am using it as an excuse to finally start mine. I required my students to keep a sketch journal, and was so excited about this new course, that I promised my students that I would also fulfill the assignment.
One of the primary goals of this course was to get the students to a point where they are proud of their work, and to have a skill level that a conversation with a director never starts with "I apologize for this rendering, but here is what I am trying to portray...” So, in that vein, I have decided to publicly show my journal here (or the beginnings of it) - for better or for worse.
